BIOGRAPHY

Larry Bio PhotoNarrow.jpg

Lawrence Behunek, a Pittsburgh native, received a BFA in 1975. Relocating to the Washington, DC area shortly thereafter, he began his lengthy career in graphic design, illustration and art direction. In retirement, he has returned nearly exclusively to painting. Behunek’s love for architecture and modernism, originating from a high school art class trip to Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Falling Water”, drove his creation of large-scale modernist abstractions. His largest, a 7’x11’ mixed media on canvas hangs in the Brookings Institution. While most of his works are sold to private collectors, he has also shown in numerous galleries.
